Social Programs

“My son always feels accepted for who is, no questions asked, and the social group he attends is a place where he feels welcome. He has become a more confident person through the support he has been given and has made some lovely friends in his social groups. He has really grown and matured over the past few years and I honestly do believe this is partly due to the unconditional support and caring provided by the staff.” – Mellanie, whose son attends a YES program

Using a strengths-based approach, Spectrum Space’s social programs connect young autistic people with others, providing opportunities for social interaction, engagement and fun. Designed for specific age ranges, the social programs currently operate in six strategic locations across metropolitan Perth and offer a regular program of events and activities for members. The goal is to improve self-determination so participants can be the decision maker in their lives.

Focusing on the individual interests of participants, the sessions aim to create a space to belong and be part of our community. The participants work on making choices and decisions, as well as solving problems, enabling social skills to be developed and used in a natural environment. Active involvement in decision making by all is encouraged and we welcome their input to expand our programs, develop content and connections that allow participants to flourish.

All our sessions are facilitated by qualified and talented professionals with autism experience, who aim to build participants’ confidence and self-esteem and reinforce the message that we all have talents and strengths.

The success of our services highlights the value they provide to participants in terms of meaningful engagement and learning experiences. It provides a place that feels like home for anyone who wants it. Our programs loudly and proudly support 150 individuals on a weekly basis across our locations in Fremantle, Mandurah, Marangaroo, Midland, Rockingham, Secret Harbour and South Fremantle, in line with the school term calendar.

“I am grateful for Valeska and this group as I believe that just being with the group & socialising has given [my daughter] the courage & skills to gain employment and, hopefully, keep it.” – SIS Marangaroo parent

In addition, we offer a school holiday program, Telethon Holiday Makers Program, aimed at young people between the ages of 5 and 18. To find out more, click on the images below. For a timetable for all sessions, click here.
